A chilly Wednesday evening saw the Under 10s get their season underway with a Pairs game against Astwood Bank at Cookhill CC's ground.
With half the team playing competetive cricket for the first time, the lads acquitted themselves well. With scores starting at 200 Barnt Green's bowlers took regular wickets, pegging the Bank back to 202 after 12 overs.
With both Louis Heptinstall and Jack Warner taking 4 wickets apiece, Barnt Green looked to have control in this innings. However some great strokes from James Browning saw Astwood Bank finish on 246 net (291 for 9).
Barnt Green's innings then saw early wickets tumble - Theo Needles of Astwood Bank doing some early damage. Pairings of Jack/Louis and Archie Greaves/Luke Bond stabilised the innings with some fluent shots providing some entertainment.
Despite some attacking shots from Isaac Hewetson in the last pair, Barnt Green lost another 3 wickets, the Bank taking their wicket tally to 8.
Barnt Green finished on 222 net (262 for 8), Astwood Bank worthy winners by 24 runs.
With plenty to take from this game, the boys will be looking forward to their first home match next Wednesday against Alvechurch.
