Barnt Green’s all conquering U13’s welcomed the Warwickshire Champions to Cherry Hill Road this week, having won the Worcestershire County Cup last month Barnt Green progressed into the national rounds and were pitted against local rivals Knowle and Dorridge.
Having remained unbeaten in competitive games this year and on the verge of their third Premier League title in three seasons the Green Army were well supported on a gloomy night. Winning the toss the away side elected to bowl on a well prepared true surface. Green army openers Roll and Homer saw off the excellent new ball attack of Gaffney in particular, before Homer was trapped in front for 12, Roll followed shortly afterwards well stumped by Bevan for an executive 22.
Big hitting Jacobsen then powered the rate to 7 an over before being bowled, Hayden Froggatt picked the gaps well in a well constructed 31 Retired before fellow Legoman Henry Cullen with a quick 25 pushed the score up to an impressive 148/5 from the twenty.
Knowle and Dorridge were on course from the off as all the bowlers struggled to contain the scoring rate with the first three batters of Gaffney, Clark and Smith helping themselves to their allotted 30 not outs. With eight over’s to ago the away side were favourites. The Home side bowlers however held their nerve with Meredith, Froggatt and Greenhalgh picking up late wickets as score board pressure finally told and the innings fell away to 136/6. Barnt Green running out winners by 12 runs.
The Green now take on Radcliffe on Trent from Nottingham in the Midlands Semi Final next week.
